LOCAL 'FAERING'(PRONOUNCED 'FAHRING) FOR SALE
Norwegian faerings date back 1000 years to Viking times; round-bottomed rowing and sailing double-enders, these boats were used by the inshore fishing industry along Norway’s rugged coastline.
This boat is part of the late Mr Stevens estate, given to him by Nicky Behr of Plettenberg Bay. It’s not known when she was built nor by whom, but she was last run just two years ago.
Her Petter, single cylinder, inboard engine has a home designed heat exchanger system for salt/fresh water cooling and looks to be around 6ph.
The overall condition of the boat is very good, the hull is clean and undamaged. The sale includes a mast and main sail, red in colour. The rudder is a spectacular piece of art on its own.
There is an unlicensed trailer and a cover included in the sale, but no battery at present. There is just the single oarlock mounting and no oars included. The instrument panel looks almost new.
This is a pretty boat, versatile and sea worthy. The forward area could house a cabin. The engine sits high in the mid section and could be swopped for an outboard in a well to make way for more comfortable seating arrangements. The possibilities are numerous, but the temptation is to keep her exactly as she was intended to be, to preserve that something special that you can’t help feeling in her midst.
All reasonable offers will be considered.
